If Santa Cruz had a mascot, what would it be? Why?

lt paulThe monarch butterfly, because it’s the [most] beautiful thing that I can remember from first visiting Santa Cruz 25 years ago. And I was awed by their population and beauty and grace out by Natural Bridges.

lt brandonIt’s going to be a deranged skateboarder. A spun out, wirey-haired Santa Cruz skateboarder is certainly our mascot. They’re everywhere. It’s got to be.

lt RickAn otter wearing a Bob Marley T-shirt, Ugg boots, carrying a yoga mat and a disc golf frisbee. Because these things seem to be popular for as long as I’ve lived here.

lt matthewA homeless kid with a puppy. It’s ubiquitous, you see it every day. It’s one of the street characters that you can always see here.

lt jeffA unicorn, because everybody keeps talking about this thing that doesn’t exist but everyone wants one. Girls love them. Santa Cruz is like that, it’s one of a kind, it’s a myth, a story, a fantasy. It’s something that doesn’t quite exist but we’re all searching for it. It’s like a horse, you know, you can ride it, but it’s not real.
