What does the term, ‘take back Santa Cruz’ mean to you?

lt hillaryTaking back Santa Cruz means feeling more safe on our streets in the night, being able to be out with our families and our friends in the evening and not worrying about getting hurt, or attacked, or being in our parks after sunset without worrying about what we might find. I’ve been at a lot of parks with my niece and found a lot of needles in the sand. So, not having to worry so much about what we’re doing and just enjoying our lives more.

A reaction to the yuppies and the people that are coming in from different parts of California that aren’t part of the culture. Take back Santa Cruz to me is about keeping it local. I’ve noticed it in cities like Austin Texas. It’s a very unique vibe and I just don’t like to see commercialism.

lt kaylaI went on the police blog and was shocked to see that there were 10,000 crimes in Santa Cruz when the national average for a city our size is 6,000 and the fact that its double makes me want to ask who’s taking it over? Why do we have so much crime? So part of taking back Santa Cruz is to make it safer. I really have this sense that things have gotten out of control. What happened? Take Back Santa Cruz means I want to raise my children here,

I want to live here, I want it to be a

flourishing community, rather than a community in fear.

lt wesTake back’ from whom? For whom? I’ve seen Santa Cruz swing from tolerance to a divisive wanna-be Los Gatos obsessed with safety, economic growth, and normalcy. TBSC is just riding that wave.”
