dining lomaprietaPetite Sirah 2008

Last week I wrote about a red blend for Valentine’s Day, but as the year’s most romantic day approaches and you’re still looking for something downright voluptuous, then Loma Prieta’s Petit Sirah fits the bill. This is one fabulous wine we have here. This 2008 Petit Sirah, Amorosa Vineyard, Lodi ($35), won a gold medal at last year’s Hilton Head Wine & Food Festival, as well as a silver medal at the 2011 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. This fruit-laden wine has densely rich flavors of boysenberry and cherry pie – with an intense and lingering finish. It will most definitely impress all the Valentines out there.

This full-throttle red goes really well with meat, especially barbecue, but I would suggest pairing it with chocolate. Treat yourself to some really good chocolate – preferably local – pour your sweetheart a glass of this lovely nectar, and romance will fill the air. Well, I’m not making any promises, but at least you’ll enjoy the wine!

Located at about 2,300 feet in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Loma Prieta is well worth a visit – not only for its beautiful wines, but also for the stunning panoramic views from the mountaintop. The winery is not really difficult to find, but they recommend that you follow the directions given on their website.
