Marin Alsop
Ten Questions for Marin Alsop
The longtime director of the Cabrillo Music Festival answers our prying questions.
What do you do for a living?
I have the greatest job in the world--orchestra conductor.
What would you be doing if you weren't doing that?
I think I would either be a litigator or a manager of a large company. Or a politician? Scary thought.
What do you do in your free time?
Spend time with my (almost) 6-year-old son, Auden; read, workout, study.
What comes to mind when you think of Santa Cruz?
Cool mornings and wonderful people.
What's your favorite street?
In Santa Cruz, it's Church Street because the Civic Auditorium, where all the action happens at the Cabrillo Festival, is there!
Name something you're excited about.
I'm excited about everything! Seeing Santa Cruz again, especially through the eyes of my son. He adores the beach and all of the musicians--me too.
Name a pet peeve.
Complacency and negativity.
What are you reading?
Bodies by Susie Orbach and The Inner Voice by Renée Fleming.
What's the most important thing you've learned in the last three years?
To cherish every moment and give myself a break now and then.
Recent personal food trend?
I've never been much of a foodie, but recently started cooking and enjoy grilling!
