.Balms Away

blog_beauty1I am a self-professed lip balm fanatic. If I rub my lips together and don’t feel that comforting glossy sheen, I must reapply immediately. And let me tell you, Blistex just doesn’t cut it—I am obsessed with Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1. Call me OCD or just plain crazy, but when I dig in my purse and cannot find the beautiful white tub of Kiehl’s I begin to panic. My lips start to feel as parched as though I have been walking for days in the Sahara, and once at the airport during that heinous time when liquids and gels were entirely banned they confiscated my Kiehl’s and I cried. Eight hours on a plane with no lip balm is my version of hell.

Why is Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 so amazing? Being the lip balm freak that I am, I have tried countless varieties and have simply never found one quite so moisturizing in a non-sticky, not too shiny yet perfectly sheeny kind of way. It also blog_beauty2contains SPF 4 to ensure your pout is perfectly protected from the sun at all times. Kiehl’s, an apothecary company that began in New York City in 1851, also concocts many other skin products, many of which I have used and also become quickly obsessed with. Namely the Ultimate Strength Hand Salve, Ultra Facial Moisturizer and Ultra Facial Cream. A fantastic array of Kiehl’s products can be found at local beauty boutique Farmacy (shopfarmacy.com), and prices range from $10 for a one ounce tub of the coveted balm, to $50 plus for some of the fancier facial formulations. Warning: Don’t start using it unless you are willing to shell out $10 a pop because once you try the Lip Balm #1 you will become a believer—Chapstick will never cut it again.
