.The Big Apple—Shopping Part II

blog_beauty22A few weeks ago, my fellow Obsessive Beauty writer, Leslie Patrick, and I, met up for a day of shopping and eating in New York City. We had a ridiculous amount of fun. Among the must-sees, we dived into a host of shops that we have to tell you about. Whether you’re planning a trip to Manhattan, or you’d rather travel there cyber-style and go shopping online—these are some shops that you can’t overlook.

Mxyplyzyk, pronounced, Mix-ee-pliz-ik, (yes, a very strange name), is a store that’s well worth visiting. Located in Greenwich Village (a charming community with a fantastic history), this gift store is stocked with treasures you never knew you wanted: from an owl door mat, to a host of different candles and tote bags, to quirky office supplies, objects for your bathroom, and the list goes on. blog_beauty2-2Also in Greenwich Village, shopping-wise, is The Little Soap Shop, an adorable, fragrant literal hole-in-the-wall, where you won’t leave without buying some sort of soap or hand lotion. With an extensive selection of every scent and concoction you can imagine, The Little Soap Shop is a little store that could. Littlesoapshop.net.

But clothing, that’s what matters most, right? And where else is there to shop other than SoHo, the ultimate shopping district? While there, we hit up the enormous Anthropologie, the expansive Levi’s store, and several newly discovered boutiques. Among those we found drool-worthy were two that clearly stuck out to us: Eryn Brinie and Bio-NYC.

Eryn Brinie is for the stylish, sophisticated, artist type, who wants to make a subtle, fashionable statement, but not be too loud about it. Just create enough noise to make people pay attention—in a good way. Our favorite selections there: The Audrey Jacket, L’Artist Jacket, the Meadow Blouse, and a whole lot more. With prices that aren’t quite out of control, you can find something there to take home, and it’ll last you a lifetime. Erynbrinie.com.

Bio-NYC—this quickly became one of our new, favorite stores. It’s also a tiny hole-in-the-wall, but this itty bitty store houses our new favorite designer, Gróa—a line from Denmark, which reminds you of something you might find at Anthropologie, but a piece there that only the real fashionistas are going to go for. We fell in love with the Groa Short Sleeve (and the Long Sleeve) Ruffle Jacket and the Groa Ruffle Hoodie Vest. Prices are a bit steep here, but if you purchase one item, it’s an investment piece well worth your money. Bio-nyc.com.

So, whether you can make the trek across the United States, or whether you’re stuck in Santa Cruz for the long haul, do some New York shopping—either in person, or online. You won’t regret it.
