Decision 2000 Next month, residents of Santa Cruz County will enter voting booths and be confronted with a presidential race, 20 statewide ballot measures, primaries all over the map, three supervisors races, a judgeship and a school funding measure. On top of all that, there is the confusion of the open primary system. It allows you to vote for any candidate you want in a partisan race, but your vote will be meaningless as far as the delegate process is concerned if you are not a member of the party of the candidate for whom you vote. But voting is nothing compared to running for public office--a difficult and grinding experience under the best of circumstances. Metro Santa Cruz wishes good luck to all candidates, whether or not they received our endorsement. Arguably the election that will have a more important and lasting local impact than any other issue or candidate on the ballot will be the choice of the first new elected Santa Cruz County district attorney in 20 years. Metro Santa Cruz has followed this race closely. Our endorsement for DA leads this year's election issue.
