Cabernet Sauvignon 2009
Looking for something really luscious and exciting? Let me recommend Copious Winery’s Cabernet Sauvignon.
With a craving for some good Italian food, my husband and I went to Ristorante Barolo in Aptos for dinner and I took along a bottle of Copious Winery’s Cab ($42). With its muscular body and earthy nutty quality, it goes really well with hearty fare such as meat dishes and a good bowl of pasta. I almost always have a pasta dish at this restaurant and the one I had this time, one of the specials stuffed with crab, was excellent.
Winemaker Lance Campbell is an ace when it comes to winemaking. He has garnered more than 300 awards during his years in the business, honing his skills at his previously owned winery in the Sierra foothills, and continues to get recognition for his excellent wines. His 2009 Cab, made with grapes from Rutherford, is vibrant, well structured and concentrated with luscious flavors of ripe plum, cedar and chocolate on the palate and subtle notes of black licorice, currant and blackberry in the background.
Campbell also makes Pinot Noir, his 2009 Pinot Noir, California, a blend of two vineyards, won Best of Class in the prestigious 2011 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition; and two of Campbell’s other Pinots won gold and silver awards in the same competition. As well as Pinot Noir, Copious also produces Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, and a Bordeaux blend called Reflection.
Campbell participates in many wine events locally, and an early heads up to put down on your calendar is for the Vintners Festival on June 9 and 10.
Copious Winery recently moved its tasting room to just around the corner from its old spot – and is now sharing a space with Equinox Wines. This means double pleasure when next you go wine tasting as you can try both Copious wines and Equinox wines under the same roof.
