I’d say it’s Rene Schlaepfer, the pastor for Twin Lakes Church. Very, very inspirational. He really inspires people to get out there and be in the community, community service, helping the homeless, food drives, missions right here in our own community with the schools, without asking for anything in return.

My daughters, Emilie (11) and Bella (9), who are fearless due to their love for biking and competition. They travel all over the West just to race BMX in the biggest races and stiffest competition they can find.

Nina Simon [of MAH]. The work she does to create spaces in museums
that facilitate meaningful experiences is truly inspiring.

For me the most inspiring person is Nancy Ailsworth. She’s our adviser/teacher at Alternative Family Education, and if it wasn’t for her I think I would have given up on homeschooling a long time ago.

My vote for most inspiring person in Santa Cruz is Phil Kaplan. He has been running the “No Attitudes Allowed” beach volleyball tournaments for more than 20 years. Besides being an event that fosters positive, healthy competition, Phil’s tournaments have also raised more than $59,000 for various local and global nonprofits.
