bogWin tickets to see SHAWN MULLINS at The Rio Theatre on SantaCruz.com

In 2010, singer-songwriter Shawn Mullins released Light You Up, an Americana album that showcases the artist’s easy style and Southern roots. Then last year, after a five-year hiatus, Mullins dropped My Stupid Heart, a deeply personal record exploring the Atlanta-based artist’s love of his family, his friends and his country. It’s also an open-hearted glimpse into his recent divorce—most notably on the title track. As Mullins told Rolling Stone, the song was inspired by the notion that dealing with the split would be so much easier if he could just blame the whole thing on his stupid heart. On Feb. 24, Mullins brings his celebrated brand of country-rock—as well as a little bit of heartache—to the Rio Theatre. Chuck Cannon opens. CAT JOHNSON
