.Make it a Record Store Day

Blog_noise2Plus tips on how to book an in-store at Streetlight Records
Just like cassette tapes are the new vinyl, your local record store is the new iTunes. Gone is the thrill of click, click, clicking away in a dark room to find new music, we’ve seen the light and it is shining through the windows of a real live record store.

Anyone who has ever stepped foot into the musical safe haven that is our own Streetlight Records will immediately recognize that this isn’t Walmart. There are no corporate sponsorships, no major labels controlling the overhead sound system, the staff is not forced to wear uniforms (unless you count the tattoos)—this is a real record store.

This Saturday, April 17, marks International Record Store Day, a day when all independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. This is a special day to put your money where your mouth is and support a Pacific Avenue fixture that deserves to not only survive, but thrive. It only seems fair that if Pigs-in-a-Blanket can get their own day (April 24), so too should record stores.

In celebration of this most festive of days, Streetlight Records will be hosting local bands and DJs all day long, including local favorites the Steller Corpses, Tetherhorse, DJ Rob Monroy and DJ Tom LG. They will also have special in-store offers to reward you for your support.

If you are reading this and wondering why your band isn’t playing in-store this Saturday, all is not lost. Streetlight is currently booking future in-store performance slots, usually happening around 4 p.m. and they are ready and willing to support a wide variety of local music talent. Drop them an email through their MySpace page and prepare to rock the record stacks.
