.DJ Tom LG

music_LYLBDJTomOn nearly any given day of the week you can find DJ Tom LG (Lakos-Galleguillos) dressed to the nines, spinning big band swing and jazz (Sides Speakeasy Monday nights at the 515), early R&B (The Red Light Night, Fridays  at The Red), and ragtime and rockabilly (Atom & Eve at Motiv every other Wednesday); plus a plethora of added gigs all as unique, original and classy as the vintage attire that people wear to dance to his sets. All of this makes him one of the hardest working DJs on the scene. A veteran to the circuit, Tom LG began spinning in 1993 after a tragic experience. He’d spent an evening with friends at a rave in a private warehouse in Watsonville when a fight broke out. By the end of the night, five of his friends were injured and an 18-year-old was tragically killed as everyone tried to escape. “It was probably the most horrifying thing I’ve experienced,” the DJ reminisces. “There’s suddenly a fine line between life and death, and there you are, going, ‘Uh, this is real! This is happening!’” Trying to understand the events, he and his friends regrouped at his house. There, he put on some music and noticed how the mood was completely transformed. Since then he’s dedicated his life to finding the perfect music for the perfect mood. With the concentration of Bogart and the charm of Fred McMurray, DJ Tom LG sees himself as a guide. “I’m trying to create a world, a little tiny pocket, where you walk in and you’re no longer in this century,”
he explains. Armed with a collection of more than 8,000 vinyl records that would make any music junkie salivate, he creates a dreamlike world while his photographer wife, Rosey, takes vintage photos of all the dapper gents and cool chicks swinging and jitterbugging their worries away. “We seem exclusive without being exclusive,” he states. “Anyone’s invited, I just want people to participate and have a good time.”
