Last week, sponsors of the Community Assessment Project (CAP) unveiled the 2010 CAP Report—a behemoth packet of aggregated info about Santa Cruz County that sheds light on everything from how many 12th graders took the SATS (32 percent in 2009/10—less than the 44 percent in 2005) to the demographics of the county’s inmates (56 percent are Caucasian). Twenty-six percent of 5 to 19-year-olds were overweight in 2008, but—on the bright side—nearly 98 percent of county children had healthcare. Among the other findings, the CAP reports that UC Santa Cruz enrollment has continued to steadily rise (from 12,144 students in 2000 to 16,763 students in fall 2009), while enrollment at Cabrillo has decreased a small amount in the past two years.
