Construction is officially underway for Santa Cruz’s next big attraction, the Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center. Located between the Municipal Wharf and the heart of Downtown Santa Cruz, the center is being built by Bogard Construction Inc. and is expected to draw 200,000 visitors annually. The majority of costs are being covered by federal funding (thanks to Congressman Sam Farr, who worked to secure those funds), but the project is still working on an additional $3 million for the exhibits that will be featured throughout the center. (Word has it that some exhibits will be very “high-tech.”)
