Central Coast farmers have come together to fight for clean water, forming a coalition called the Ag Working Group, which includes farmers from Santa Cruz to Santa Barbara. The coalition will provide compliance assistance, education and audits to help farmers achieve tougher environmental regulations—the toughest in the world, according to an early December press release from the Grower-Shipper Association of California. “In many states, agriculture is exempted from water regulations,” reads the release. “In California, farmers take a different approach. For more than a decade, Central Coast farmers have contributed to water quality improvement.”
