Walk it Out: UC Santa Cruz freshmen Robert Trueng, Andres Mendez (middle), and Ashley Ornelas, were some of the 200 walkers, who participated in the annual 10k Santa Cruz AIDS Walk on Saturday, March 10. The walk, which began at the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf and snaked all the way up along West Cliff Drive to Natural Bridges and back, raised $16,000 for the Santa Cruz AIDS Project.
Coffee for a Cause: Scotts Valley High School students Julia Morrison and Seryna Tapuloa, both 15, helped raise money at Java Junction coffee shop in Santa Cruz for Kurt Garrett, a local 23-year-old with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), who is in dire need of a liver transplant. During the fundraiser on Sunday, March 11, Java Junction donated 50 percent of its sales to Garrett’s medical expenses, while friends and family sold homemade baked goods.
