Afro-Cuban music and jazz have had a long history together, and Havana-born Roberto Fonseca has kept this beautiful marriage alive his entire career.
For his ninth studio album, Yesun, he’s taking it even further, continuing to pull from traditional jazz and Afro-Cuban music, but also taking elements of electronic music, funk, reggaeton, and rap to give us a taste of where this music could go with a little bit of ingenuity and experimentation.Â
7pm. Thursday, March 5, Kuumbwa Jazz Center, 320-2 Cedar St., Santa Cruz. $31.50/adv, $36.75/door. Information: kuumbwajazz.org.
