bathsaltsObsessive Beauty’s eco-friendly holiday gift-giving pick

If you’re struggling to come up with the perfect, thoughtful gift for the lovely ladies in your life, look no further: Copper Moon Apothecary has what you need.

But before I succumb to raving about the luxurious and healing items in their inventory, let me take a moment to note that purchasing holiday gifts from Copper Moon also means that you’ll be “thinking local first” (they’re based in Ben Lomond) and supporting a sustainable and “green” business—both major pluses for today’s eco-minded shopper. The recyclable amber glass and post-consumer recycled labels give the products a high-end feel, while also appealing to the environmentally responsible person on your shopping list.

As for the goods, the company’s bath salts, balms, salves, lotions, potions and soaps are all created based on the age-old belief in the healing power of herbs. Many of the ingredients are grown in the Apothecary’s own organic garden, while others are sourced from local or fair trade sources. Crafted in small batches to ensure the highest quality, each product is aimed at healing the physical body, but also soothes the soul and stimulates the senses. To boot, none of their products are tested on animals.

There are plenty of luscious items to choose from when making the way down your holiday shopping list, but there are a few stellar products that really stand out as foolproof gift ideas. Of the lotions, I find the Sandalwood & Vanilla absolutely irresistible. It’s a musky and sultry celebration of natural scents that goes on silky smooth, softens skin and leaves a subtle aroma all day. I’m a sucker for sandalwood, however, and not everyone is—in which case I’d recommend the more universal (but equally as effective) Olive Oil, Comfrey & Calendula scent.

All of the bath salts are to die for, but I’m especially fond of the Relax Bath Soak mix: a blend of dead sea salts, chamomile, lavender, rose hips, valerian, rosemary, mint, passion flower, and more. It’s the right pick for any friend or family member of yours who could use some unwinding. My only complaint (if you can call it that) is that it leaves tiny flower buds and bits behind in the tub, but it’s a small price to pay for bliss.

The Dream Balm is another great gift idea from Copper Moon. It’s a buttery mixture of relaxing herbs and oils that aids in releasing tension, falling asleep, and relieving headaches. Lastly, the Evening Primrose Ageless Eye Cream is a winner. The small jar will last the recipient forever, fighting wrinkles, bags and circles all the while. (A good gift for someone who won’t take offense that you’re giving him or her eye cream.)

Gift givers take note: You can track down Copper Moon products at local outlets including Whole Foods, New Leaf, Staff of Life, Way of Life, Scotts Valley Market, Ben Lomond Market, Skin City Aptos Village and Delaney Place in Soquel. However, they also have great deals online, including free shipping on orders of more than $75 and 25 percent and 50 percent discounts, respectively, on half and full-cases of identical items. (A true steal if, for example, you want to get Relax Bath Soaks for all of your girlfriends.)
