Four great healthy recipe websites
I recently asked my friends, clients, and family what their favorite healthy recipe websites are. I enjoyed reading everyone’s responses and chose four sites that I believe have the tastiest, healthiest and most unique recipes. Here they are:
1. Skinnytaste.com: This website receives my personal vote for top healthy recipe site. Skinnytaste.com features low-fat, family-friendly, healthy recipes. In 2008, Gina Homolka created Skinnytaste, which was the winner of the Shape Magazine Best Healthy Eating Blogs 2011 and The Homies: Best Home Cooking Blog for 2011. I have made many of the nutritious recipes on this blog and everything came out delicious. Not only did my picky-eater husband not realize he was eating low-fat foods, but he often complimented the new dishes and requested that I make them again. Sign up for the Skinnytaste.com blog and receive a new healthy recipe approximately two to three times per week.
2. Eatingwell.com: This website was the overall top pick of my friends. According to their website, Eating Well’s mission is to provide the inspiration and information people need to make healthy eating a way of life. They offer three free online newsletters, videos, and a daily and weekly menu planner. Some additional features of their website include recession proof crock pot recipes ($3 and under), a seven day diet meal plan, and prize-winning healthy holiday cookies.
3. Hungry-girl.com: My sister, who is a busy career woman with no time to cook, loves this website. She boasts that the recipes are easy to make and most take less than 10 minutes to prepare. Lisa Lillien, is a New York Times best-selling author of five cookbooks, the star of the Hungry Girl television show, the creator of the Hungry Girl brand, and the founder of hungry-girl.com. Among the many features, the website provides readers with a healthy recipe of the day, information about the newest nutrition products on the market, tips on entertaining guests, eating clean, and reading nutrition labels.
4. Cookinglight.com: I’ve been a Cooking Light magazine subscriber for years, so when I need a healthier version of a fattening recipe, I typically turn to this website. They have made thousands of recipes from fried and high fat to low calorie and baked. I’m a huge fan of the fitness link on their website, which includes suggestions for eating before and during different types of workouts and smart snacking for an active lifestyle.
