I enjoyed your article on commute alternatives (GT 2/4), but you left out an important alternative: telecommute centers. These are cropping up around the country, and we have a great one here in the county: The Satellite in Felton. I work there sometimes, and I’m always amazed at how much more I can get done at the Satellite than working at home. Not only is the space comfortable, but they are really focused on building community. We hold our meditation group meeting there, and since the local library has cut hours, they let our book club meet there, too. I know that the local Chamber, Valley Women’s Club and Mountain Community Resources also meet at the Satellite, so it’s become a real community center, as well as community workspace.

Thanks for some thoughtful reporting on commute solutions (GT 2/4). I found out more information than I thought I would. It’s got my whole household thinking, too, and we—there are six of us students—are opting to use a bike once a week to either go to work or to school. Let’s keep this world clean.

Housing Sucks
It was good to hear about the workshop about affordable housing (GT 2/4), but truthfully, housing here sucks. And it won’t get better either. I’m in my early thirties and I am just struggling to stay afloat. I have two jobs and I’m always tired and there’s never really any opportunity to save. I’m about ready to leave the town and start over completely—and most of it has to do with the housing situation. Landlords here are criminal. They should be ashamed of themselves for how much they charge.
