What’s the tour about?
Open Studios is a classic hit that gets better every year. The Tour kicked off in 1986 with a simple goal: to get art fans and artists together—all across Santa Cruz County. Artists open their studios and art enthusiasts go on tour. Using this Guide, you get to visit studios, meet artists, see their process and buy incredible art. It’s like getting concert swag directly from your favorite band while hanging out with them using your backstage pass.
It’s one of those killer ideas that took off immediately. And it’s been riding high on the charts ever since. Today, going to Open Studios is like hanging out at a major festival, with Santa Cruz & Watsonville headlining among the top 5 Most Artistic Cities in America—according to The Atlantic Magazine.
The 2015 Tour features nearly 300 artists working in dozens of mediums. People come from around the wrodl to cruise the scene. The Woodstock of Open Studios, we’ve inspiried others around the globe.
Like any great festival, we’ve got classic rockers who take part every year, and new artists as well, so there’s always something fresh. The Tour is spread over three weekend—North County, South County, and Encore when select artists acrross the county opne theri spaces again so fans get a 2nd chance to check ’em out.
