Video games based on comic books are notorious for their lack in quality (Just ask Superman about his Nintendo 64 game). More often than not a company will rush out a half-baked product in order to capitalize on a familiar franchise, usually to coincide with a movie release or something like that. So when one comes along and manages to receive solid to great reviews, it’s a very welcome surprise.

Featuring a story penned by fan favorite Spidey scribe Dan Slott, players assume the role of everyone’s favorite web-head in 4 different incarnations as he traverses multiple versions of the Marvel universe. There’s the classic “Amazing” Spider-Man, the futuristic 2099 Spidey, a dark and brooding Noir take and the very popular “Ultimate” variation, each with their own individual moves and matching worlds to roam. The premise alone is pretty great so it’s nice to hear that the gameplay mechanics display enough variety to maintain interest. I plan on the giving the Wii version a spin as soon as I get the chance because its not everyday something Marvel related generates my excitement (and you just can’t beat motion controlled web-slinging). Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions retails between 49.99 to 59.99 and is available for all major consoles right now. Oh, and you can check out a trailer for the game by clicking this!
