If you recall, back in August 2011, Good Times teamed up with local production company *IMPACT and the Santa Cruz Film Festival to host Take One: A Screenwriting Competition. The rules were simple: Submit a short script of any genre (two pages maximum) for a one- to two-minute movie.

The response to the contest was overwhelming, as oodles of Santa Cruzans submitted their original work, which ranged from horror films, to romantic comedies, to thought-provoking dramas.

The winners of the contest—whose scripts were blind-judged by a panel that included staff from GT, *IMPACT and SCFF—had their work published in Good Times on October 6, 2011. Read the winning scripts here.

The winners were Jesus Freak by Timothy Rinker, Smarty Pants by Emily Catalano, and Tip of My Tongue by Zach Dunn.

The three films were shot between October and Feb. 1 by *IMPACT, which held an open casting call for actors.

The final edited films screened on Thursday, May 10 at the Del Mar Theatre, as part of the 11th annual Santa Cruz Film Festival.

But don’t fret if you didn’t make it to the film festival—*IMPACT has uploaded the three winning films to the web for Good Times readers to view.
