SANTA CRUZ – Thanks to Soquel resident Amy Colton, a Registered Nurse and cancer survivor, California mammogram providers will be legally required to tell patients if they have dense breast tissue (more than half of women do, but few know it—or that it can make cancer much harder to detect). Colton suggested the bill in Sen. Joe Simitian’s annual “There Oughta Be a Law” contest and won. The bill passed on a vote of 34 to 5 on Wednesday, June 3.
